The CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) allows California high school pupils to earn a credential that is a valid substitute for a high school diploma. Test takers can benefit from early access to community colleges or certain jobs requiring a high school diploma by taking the exam as early as the tenth grade. A representative from the Sacramento County Office of Education stated that the homeschool community has utilized this program and has a very high test-taking success rate.

The test is open to anyone who is 16 years of age or older. The exam is also open to younger individuals who fulfill additional requirements. In California, this test is administered twice a year at numerous locations. Three topics are covered in the exam: math, reading, and writing. The test has an admission charge.

Test-takers who pass the exam will receive a Certificate of Proficiency, which is the same as a high school diploma. State law mandates that the Certificate of Proficiency be accepted instead of a high school diploma by any Californian institution. The following outcomes result from accepting the Certificate of Proficiency:

  • Prospects for Employment: The Certificate of Proficiency is accepted as proof of completion by any Californian company, including federal agencies, that requires a high school degree.
  • Higher Education: Those who hold a certificate are eligible to apply to and be accepted into colleges and universities.
  • Student Aid: Having been authorized by the US Federal Student Aid Office, anyone holding this certification is eligible for federal student loans and other forms of financial assistance.

What Our CHSPE Practice Test Includes

Let’s take an overview of our practice examination.

Overall, when it comes to the homepage of our website, what catches your eyes, at first sight, are two main sections: “Practice CHSPE Test By Topics” and “Take Full CHSPE Practice Test”. To meet the learners’ needs, the former functions as learning materials that are categorized into different topics or domains covering nearly CHSPE knowledge for practice. The latter mimics the real exam to check learners’ outcomes and create a chance for a mock test before taking the real one.

Practice CHSPE Test By Topics

The CHSPE practice includes a combination of multiple-choice questions, divided into 3 core sections:

  • English language Arts: It evaluates an examinee's proficiency with language mechanics and how well they can communicate ideas in writing while adhering to English language norms.
  • Mathematics: This section includes a variety of multiple-choice questions covering algebra, geometry, statistics, and other mathematical areas.
  • Reading: The purpose of the reading subtest is to assess a person's comprehension of written language, evaluation of written language, and ability to infer word meaning from context. It assesses a person's linguistic proficiency as well.

Within each section, there are 7 levels and 2 tests, divided into 2 stages. Stage 1 includes the first 3 levels and a mini-test. Stage 2 includes 4 remaining levels and a final test. Each level includes 10 multiple-choice questions. The mini-test comprises 30 questions covering knowledge of the whole first stage. The final test comprises 70 questions covering knowledge of the whole topic.

Remember! Our results recording system will notify you of the results you have achieved after your first attempt, for example, 6/10. However, you must answer all questions correctly to be allowed to move to the next level. Hence, you are allowed to do it again more than once and the false questions will automatically return until you correct all of them. Of course, if you are confident in any topic, you can skip levels and move to the mini-test or the final test immediately. The scaled score of the CHSPE test is between 250 and 450. For each Mathematics and Reading subtest, the scoring requirement is 350. The English language arts subtest's final score is calculated using a combination of a scaled scoring method for multiple-choice questions and a bespoke writing task scoring system.

An extremely appreciated feature of our website is that after each question in the practice section, learners will immediately know whether their results are correct or incorrect. Furthermore, there will be an extremely detailed explanation for the question, which is right below the question section.

Take the Full CHSPE Practice Test

After practicing proficiently in the practice section introduced above, learners can choose a "full test" to check their current level. The CHSPE simulates the real exam format.

The test includes 90 multiple-choice questions within 105 minutes. Contestants will take the test within the allotted time frame. The clock placed right above the question section helps test takers be proactive in managing their exam time.

An outstanding feature is that test takers will not immediately know the results of each question in this part like in the practice one. After completing all the questions and receiving the final results, test takers will have the opportunity to review all the questions to see which ones they got right and which ones they got wrong. Detailed explanations for the answers are also attached right below each question. This helps test takers review knowledge more deeply and gain experience for the next test, especially in the real exam.

For convenience of use, we also released a mobile version of the application. Operations in the phone application remain the same as on the website. The only difference is that after completing the questions, you must click “Submit” to receive the final results of the test.

Some Tips To Get a Good Score On CHSPE

Students preparing for the CHSPE must use some useful techniques to boost their exam scores:

  • Make a study schedule: Considering the difficulties you face, determine how much time you should spend studying each week. It might be sufficient to spend a few hours going over the concepts you missed if all of your scores were 80% or above. You should schedule multiple study sessions per week if your score on each section is lower than 60%. Plan your study sessions and mock exams in advance on your calendar. To determine the exact level, you should take a mock test before learning revision. Our website provides a mock test, and you can estimate the results after you finish. Let's come and try.
  • Get acquainted with the exam: Visit the CHSPE Practice Test website to review sample questions and the test breakdown.
  • Practice with each concept and area for enhancement: Study and practice each concept and question type that is divided into separate sections. You can use Barron's book and other test preparation books, as well as online resources like https://easy-prep.org/chspe-practice-test.

Practicing before taking any exam is extremely necessary. Finding a reputable and effective learning source is even more important. Each choice you make can determine success or failure. Trust me!
