The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) program includes the TSI Assessment, which is used to assess your readiness for reading, writing, and math courses at the college or university level. If you are a new college student in Texas, you must take the TSI Assessment to find out if you are prepared for college-level work, unless you are already exempt. Depending on your performance, you might be placed in a developmental course or intervention to enhance your skills and get you ready for college-level courses, or you might be enrolled in a course at the college level.

Students who achieve the benchmarks or higher are deemed to be "college ready," meaning they don't need remediation to enroll in any entry-level college course, such as college algebra, history, government, or English composition. There are college-level courses that demand passing grades in multiple subject areas.

The TSIA benchmarks listed below are still applicable five years after they were met (before 1/11/2021):

  • A score of at least 350 in mathematics.
  • A minimum of 351 in reading.
  • Writing: a diagnostic level of 4-6, an essay score of 5-8, and a minimum multiple-choice score of 340 with an essay score of 4-8 or a score less than 340.

Why Need To Take The TSI Assessment

You might be compelled to enroll in developmental academic coursework or accelerated intervention before you can take a college credit course for the subject you failed if you fail any or all of the reading, writing, or math portions of the TSI Assessment. For example, you won't be able to enroll in courses that require a lot of reading if you receive a low score on the reading section of the test.

You are also prohibited from enrolling in advanced courses in math and writing if you receive low scores in those sections. Additionally, before you can proceed to college courses in these subjects, you must be enrolled in these courses for a set period—more precisely, the entire semester. In some cases, you may be able to take both a developmental intervention and a college-credit course concurrently.

The TSI Assessment is an on-demand test that you can retake whenever you want to determine your college readiness. Do not forget that courses and interventions in developmental education frequently have the same price as college-level courses, but they do not transfer or count toward a degree or certificate program. Being college-ready in high school or before enrolling in a college or university is the best way to completely avoid developmental education.

What Our TSI Practice Exam Includes

Let’s take an overview of our practice examination.

Overall, when it comes to the homepage of our website, what catches your eyes, at first sight, are two main sections: “Practice TSI Test By Topics” and “Take Full TSI Practice Test”. To meet the learners’ needs, the former functions as learning materials that are categorized into different topics or domains covering nearly TSI knowledge for practice. The latter mimics the real exam to check learners’ outcomes and create a chance for a mock test before taking the real one.

Practice TSI Test By Topics

The TSI practice includes a combination of multiple-choice questions, divided into 3 core sections:

  • Math: This section covers a variety of aspects of Math like Algebraic, Geometric and Spatial, Probabilistic, and Statistical areas. For this portion, It is not permitted to bring calculators into the testing area. A calculator will appear on the screen for you if one is required and permitted.
  • Reading: pertains to the understanding and evaluation of literary texts as well as informational and persuasive texts.
  • Writing: address the editing and rewriting of sentences, paragraphs, and drafts.

Within each section, there are 7 levels and 2 tests, divided into 2 stages. Stage 1 includes the first 3 levels and a mini-test. Stage 2 includes 4 remaining levels and a final test. Each level includes 10 multiple-choice questions. The mini-test comprises 30 questions covering knowledge of the whole first stage. The final test comprises 70 questions covering knowledge of the whole topic.

Remember! Our results recording system will notify you of the results you have achieved after your first attempt, for example, 3/10. However, you must answer all questions correctly to be allowed to move to the next level. Hence, you are allowed to do it again more than once and the false questions will automatically return until you correct all of them. Of course, if you are confident in any topic, you can skip levels and move to the mini-test or the final test immediately. The standard benchmark is updated from after 1/11/2021:

  • Mathematics: at least 950 or a diagnostic level 6 and under 950.
  • Writing and reading: at least 945 on the multiple-choice section and a score of 5-8 on an essay; or under 945 on the multiple-choice section and a diagnostic level of 5-6 and a score of 5-8 on an essay.

If you achieve one of the required scores above,  you are considered college-ready.

An extremely appreciated feature of our website is that after each question in the practice section, learners will immediately know whether their results are correct or incorrect. Furthermore, there will be an extremely detailed explanation for the question, which is right below the question section.

Take the Full TSI Practice Test

After practicing proficiently in the practice section introduced above, learners can choose a "full test" to check their current level. The TSI exam simulates the real exam format.

The test includes 90 multiple-choice questions within 30 minutes. Contestants will take the test within the allotted time frame. The clock placed right above the question section helps test takers be proactive in managing their exam time.

An outstanding feature is that test takers will not immediately know the results of each question in this part like in the practice one. After completing all the questions and receiving the final results, test takers will have the opportunity to review all the questions to see which ones they got right and which ones they got wrong. Detailed explanations for the answers are also attached right below each question. This helps test takers review knowledge more deeply and gain experience for the next test, especially in the real exam.

For convenience of use, we also released a mobile version of the application. Operations in the phone application remain the same as on the website. The only difference is that after completing the questions, you must click “Submit” to receive the final results of the test.

Practicing before taking any exam is extremely necessary. Finding a reputable and effective learning source is even more important. Each choice you make can determine success or failure. Trust me! The TSI practice exam will accompany you on the path to passing the TSI assessment. Don't wait any longer, download the TSI Exam 2024 application on the App Store or Google Play or directly go to the website https://easy-prep.org/free-tsi-practice-test.
