TSI Certification: TSI Reading Practice Test Questions

The TSI Reading section evaluates a test-takers comprehension of a variety of texts, both fiction and non-fiction and their ability to read and understand them in order to provide answers to questions based on the information they have read. There are fifteen (of thirty) multiple-choice questions in the reading section, and test takers have as much time as necessary to finish them. The reading section's question types are diverse and could cover topics such as the primary idea, illustrative details, author's intent, tone, and terminology. Test-takers may be required to draw conclusions or make inferences from some questions based on details provided in the text. To assist with the reading portion, consider the following basic advice.
  • Active reading is defined as engaged with the content rather than passively reading it. Making notes, emphasizing important passages, and summarizing what you've read are a few active reading techniques.
  • Skim the questions before reading the text: Before digging into the section, review the questions to get a sense of what information you should seek. You'll read more intently and save time by doing this.
  • Determine the main idea: The primary idea is the most significant message that the writer wishes to get through. Look for hints in the passage's start and end, as well as in terms of recurring themes or expressions.
  • Take note of the author's tone and purpose: Knowing the author's intentions and tone of a chapter will aid in your comprehension of the material. When reading, take into account the author's prejudice, point of view, and aim.
So, let's apply this advice to the  TSI practice test above to verify those reading tips.
