ASE test dates

ASE certification testing is offered throughout the entire year, giving you the flexibility to choose the date that works best for you. However, there are specific registration periods you need to follow.

ASE registration periods

To take an ASE test, you must first register during one of the four official timeframes:

  • Winter: January 10 – March 31
  • Spring: April 10 – June 30
  • Summer: July 10 – September 30
  • Fall: October 10 – December 31

90-day test window after registration

Once registered via your myASE account, you’ll have 90 days from the date of purchase to schedule and complete your test. This allows plenty of time to choose a test date that suits your schedule. If you don’t complete the test within this window, your registration will expire, and your fees will not be refunded.

Test appointments

ASE certification exams are designed to fit even the busiest schedules. You can choose to test during the daytime, evenings, or weekends, depending on what works best for you.

Since popular time slots fill up quickly, especially on weekends, it’s wise to book your ASE test appointment early to lock in your ideal schedule.

Need to reschedule? You can change your ASE test appointment through your Prometric account, but keep the following in mind:

  • All changes must be made at least 3 full days (72 hours) before your scheduled test date.
  • If you try to reschedule after this window, you may lose your testing fee.

ASE test centers are available in all 54 states, with most metropolitan areas offering multiple options. However, rural areas may have limited availability, so early registration is key.

Knowing what your test day looks like can reduce anxiety and help you perform better. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Arrival: Arrive at the Prometric ASE test center at least 30 minutes early.
  • Check-in: You’ll need a valid, government-issued photo ID. No ID = no test.
  • Security: Personal items (phones, watches, bags) must be stored in lockers. The center follows strict protocols.
  • Test format: Exams are computer-based, typically featuring multiple-choice questions. Each test varies in length, ranging from 40 to 85 questions, with a 1–2 hour time limit.
  • Breaks: You may take short breaks of up to 10 minutes between tests, but during a test, the timer keeps running, and any unauthorized activity, such as using your phone or leaving the testing floor, can result in test cancellation and forfeiture of fees.
